The RustDesk Alternative for Sessions with Several People

Like RustDesk, FSRdp runs on your own server. Unlike RustDesk, it is built for sessions with more than two people – including in the browser, without installing anything.

RustDesk is open source, free of charge and can run with its own ID and relay server – for many the first choice when remote support should not run through third-party servers. FSRdp shares this basic idea. The difference lies in what each is built for: RustDesk connects two computers, FSRdp opens a room where several people see, talk and work together.

How FSRdp Differs from RustDesk

Rooms instead of one-to-one connections

A RustDesk session connects one supporter to one computer. An FSRdp room holds several participants at once: a colleague watches, the customer explains, a supporter takes control. Up to ten fixed room names per supporter make recurring appointments easy.

Full participation in the browser

RustDesk offers a web client only together with Server Pro. With FSRdp, guests join in the browser without installation: watch, talk, chat, switch on their camera, send files and even share their own screen – depending on what the room owner allows.

Cameras and voice

RustDesk transmits audio and can show the remote side's camera; a round in which several participants switch on their cameras is not what it is built for. In an FSRdp room that is exactly what happens – remote support turns into a meeting when needed, without changing tools.

Share an area, read captions

In the FSRdp Windows client you share only a screen area you drag out, instead of the whole monitor. And if wanted, every participant reads what is said, and the chat, as captions in their own language. For this, room audio is sent to an external service, which is why the feature is off by default.

When RustDesk Remains the Better Choice

For some uses RustDesk is the better fit:

Open source and free of charge. You run RustDesk without licence costs and can review its source code yourself. FSRdp is commercial software at €7 per supporter per month plus VAT.
Unattended access. With FSRdp there is always someone at the shared computer who starts sharing and grants remote control themselves. Maintaining computers with nobody in front of them is not part of the design.
Mobile devices. RustDesk is also available for Android and iOS. FSRdp has no mobile apps of its own; in a phone's browser you can join a session, but the device itself is not remote-controlled.
